Advancing School Autonomy in Ireland

Public Consultation: Advancing School Autonomy in Ireland

Call for Submissions

The Programme for Government includes a number of commitments regarding increasing the say of schools, parents and communities in the running of schools.

The Department of Education and Skills is progressing the implementation of these commitments.  As part of this process, the Department has carried out extensive research on the issue of school autonomy.  The key findings and conclusions of that research are contained in Advancing School Autonomy in Ireland: Research Paper.

The Department is now inviting views from all interested parties on the issue of school autonomy.  A Consultation Paper, has been prepared, which is designed to facilitate a deep discussion on why, how and in what circumstances greater school autonomy could be advanced in Ireland.

We would like to hear your views on the options in this paper and on a range of questions that are set out in the final section of the paper.  We look forward to a fruitful debate on the topic taking place.

This consultation will remain open until 29 January 2016
